Mastering the Work Within, the Work Between, and the Work That Endures
In Roots, Relationships, and Results, Shawn D. Moon, Jon Laudie, and Cameron Moon challenge the familiar formula of leadership. Drawing from extensive research with leaders across industries and life experiences, they uncover a powerful truth: lasting results don't come from pressure, position, or personality. They grow from deeper roots.
Who you become is shaped in the unseen places: how you steady yourself under pressure, how you invest your time and attention, how you show up in relationships, and how to choose and prioritize when everything feels pressing. The leaders who create real impact don't just chase outcomes. They become the kind of leaders people trust, seek out, and remember.
Drawing on the unfiltered experience of more than 100 leaders, this book will help you align your values with your actions, focus on what truly matters, and lead in a way that deepens roots, strengthens relationships, and produces lasting results. Because in the end, results don't come from what you chase. They grow from what you cultivate.
"Results don't come from what you chase. They grow from what you cultivate."

Before you can steady a room, you must first steady yourself.
Three leaders. Six decades of collective experience. One shared conviction: that the best results grow from the deepest roots.

President · CFO · Finance Executive · People Leader
Jon Laudie has spent his career at the intersection of finance, strategy, and people. What keeps drawing him back to that intersection is a pattern he has seen repeat itself across every organization he has been part of: the best-run companies are also the best places to work.
Over nearly two decades he has led teams across a wide range of organizations, from startups finding their footing to multi-billion-dollar enterprises, in both public and private settings, including 1-800 Contacts, Ancestry, Lucid, Netflix, and Zerorez. That journey has taken him through the corporate finance ranks to the President and CFO seat, across environments ranging from rapid organic growth to complex acquisitions and integrations, giving him a ground-level view of what leadership actually looks like when the pressure is highest and the stakes are real.
Jon holds a Bachelor of Science and an MBA from Brigham Young University's Marriott School of Business. Outside of work, he is most at home with his wife and three kids, and can usually be found on a golf course, a mountain trail, or picking up whichever instrument is closest.
Leadership Consultant · Entrepreneur · Speaker
Cameron Moon is a senior leadership development consultant who works with organizations across industries to develop leaders at every level, from the C-suite to the front line. Known for his dynamic facilitation style, Cameron has a rare ability to make complex leadership principles feel immediately accessible and actionable.
In addition to his consulting work, Cameron has served as a senior leader in both start-up and enterprise organizations, most recently as Vice President of Sales and International Operations. That experience gives him firsthand knowledge of the challenges leaders face in the real world: hiring, culture-building, and leading under pressure when the stakes are high. A self-described "leadership junkie," he has studied, practiced, and taught leadership development with hundreds of organizations, from early-stage start-ups to Fortune 500 companies across the globe.
Cameron's work in Roots, Relationships, and Results reflects his conviction that great leadership is both a discipline and a practice, something that can be taught, developed, and sustained over a lifetime. Outside of work, Cameron is a deliberate husband and father to three delightfully rambunctious children, and can usually be found chasing PRs in the gym.
Lasting performance is never extracted from people. It is grown in them.

Shawn Moon, Jon Laudie, and Cameron Moon have done something rare: they have captured the soul of leadership, not just the skill of it. Roots, Relationships & Results speaks directly to the truth I have lived and taught for decades: lasting performance is never extracted from people; it is grown in them. When leaders do the inner work, invest in real human connection, and build cultures where people can see their own progress and purpose, something remarkable happens: people volunteer their best. This book is a gift to anyone who believes, as I do, that leadership at its highest is an act of love.
In a world obsessed with leadership techniques, Shawn Moon, Jon Laudie, and Cameron Moon remind us that leadership is first and foremost an act of becoming. Roots, Relationships & Results is a thoughtful, caring and human exploration of the inner work that forms our capacity to leave a meaningful and influential legacy. Rich with wisdom, research, and stories from leaders across walks of life, this book challenges us to ask the more important question: Who are we becoming in the process of achieving? Whether you lead a company, a team, a family, or simply your own life, this book offers a compelling roadmap for cultivating the character, relationships, and purpose that make leadership endure.
Too much leadership advice focuses on what leaders should do. Roots, Relationships & Results focuses on who leaders must become. The authors make a compelling case that trust, culture, resilience, and results all grow from the same place: a leader's inner character. Wise, practical, and deeply human, this book reminds us that leadership is not about managing others first — it's about leading ourselves well. Anyone who cares about building joyful organizations where people and performance thrive will discover valuable lessons in these pages.
Healthy workplace cultures don't happen by accident.
